Abstract
Efficiency of quadrotree image segmentation in fractal compression methods is investigated. Information
criterion of rang blocks division into sub-blocks is introduced based on the minimum description length
principle. It is shown that the modified method of quadrotree segmentation results in simultaneous increase of compression ratio and quality of reconstructed image in comparison with conventional methods based on rootmean-square error threshold criterion.
